This page gives an overview of the Cambridge Web Platform, describing its current status, where and how it's developed and deployed, and who is responsible for maintaining it.
Service Description¶
The Cambridge Web Platform provides standardised websites for University departments, faculties, research groups, offices of the UAS and other University institutions and functions. These websites include a new house style and new University branding - the successor to the old "Project Light" University house style. The websites are built on the Drupal CMS. The service originally began on Drupal 10 and was upgraded to Drupal 11 in June 2025.
Service Status¶
The Cambridge Web Platform is currently in beta.
The full initial feature set of the Cambridge Web Platform - which will closely mirror the features of the Legacy Web Platform, are expected to be completed in Q1 2026. This is subject to change.
Contact¶
Technical queries and support issues should be directed to webmaster@admin.cam.ac.uk and will be picked up by a member of the team working on the service. To ensure that you receive a response, always direct requests to webmaster@admin.cam.ac.uk rather than reaching out to team members directly.
New feature requests for the Cambridge Web Platform should be made via this form.
Environments¶
Each website on the Cambridge web platform has multiple environments as standard including a production environment, a test environment and a development environment. These are all hosted on our platform as a service partner Pantheon.
The Pantheon platform also allows the creation of "multidev" environments. These allow copies of websites to be spun up easily for developers to work on specific issues without affecting the standard environments. The creation of these multidev environments can be automated through GitLab and CI integration.
