DevOps Division 2025 Objectives¶
The DevOps 2025 objectives are based on the UIS interim strategy (UIS only link):
-
Technology strategy implementation: Ensure all systems adhere to DevOps standards, approved by the Tech Lead Forum, and the University Systems Management Policy. This will be led by the DevOps Tech Leads in consultation with teams. A roadmap for achieving compliance for each application will be developed by the end of the second quarter.
-
Accelerated and measurable change: This initiative will involve clearly defined metrics and KPIs alongside leveraging common frameworks, patterns, libraries, software, and tools to maximize efficiency and avoid redundant effort with the main objective of producing more well understood, frequent and rapid changes. DevOps teams will present annual technical roadmaps which will be part of the service roadmaps created with their service teams outlining their planned development activities.
-
Technology consolidation: Streamline our technology landscape by reducing the number of different technologies used in our applications, leading to greater efficiency, enhanced collaboration, and simplified compliance. This initiative involves stopping the development of new applications or services utilizing any technology not on our approved list1, and promoting the use of common libraries, modules, CI/CD jobs, factories, etc., to ensure more consistent compliance at a lower cost and reduce complexity, thereby improving efficiency and facilitating collaboration between teams.
-
Professional growth: Support staff through targeted training opportunities, including utilising our Pluralsight subscription. Team leads will actively engage with individuals requiring support during the learning process.
The Technology strategy implementation objective directly supports Technology Infrastructure by standardizing and securing systems, and contributes to Cybersecurity by establishing secure development and deployment practices. It also facilitates Transformation Programmes by providing a consistent framework for technology delivery.
The Accelerated and measurable change objective is crucial for successful Transformation Programmes, supports Digital by allowing for faster iteration and improvement of digital services, and contributes to Budgets.
The Technology consolidation objective directly addresses Technology Infrastructure by simplifying maintenance and reducing costs, supports Cybersecurity by decreasing the attack surface and making it easier to manage vulnerabilities, and contributes to Budgets by lowering support costs.
Finally, the Professional growth objective directly addresses People by investing in the skills and development of our technology staff, indirectly supports all other priorities by ensuring staff have the necessary expertise to implement the DevOps strategy effectively, and contributes to Budgets by increasing internal expertise and potentially reducing reliance on external consultants.
